The benefits in getting an SIA licence

The aim of the SIA (Security Industry Authority), the UK licensing authority for the private security industry, is to increase and standardise the skill and professionalism of those employed in the Security Industry.

Therefore anyone carrying out the role of a CCTV Operator, Door Supervisor, Security Guard, or Close Protection Operative, must hold a valid SIA licence. This also applies to Directors and managers of security companies, or anyone emplying these staff directly e.g. pubs and clubs who employ staff "In House".

Since 2004 it has been illegal to work as a Security Officer or Door Supervisor without a valid SIA Security licence.

Please go to either the Door Supervisor Training Courses or Training Courses page for more information on the contect on the courses and for dates of  courses in your area.

Level 2 Award in Door Supervision

SIA Approved Qualification - Door Supervisor

Historically the most popular SIA licence held is the Door Supervisor. This is because, as well as being able to work in pubs and clubs, it also allows you to undertake all of the activities covered by an SIA Security licence.

Additionally the Door Supervisor Course covers working in Event Security (e.g. at the large music festivals that run throughout the summer months). This means that one SIA licence enables you to work in three sectors of the industry, so maximising your job opportunities.

To obtain the SIA Door Supervisor licence you will need to pass a licence-linked qualification called the Level 2 Award in Door Supervision. This will involve attending a 32.5 hour course , held over 4 days, passing three exams and completing and passing a practical training day during which you are continualy assessed. You will also need to provide identification for the exams detailed by the SIA as acceptable ID.

We run courses from a wide number of locations throughout the UK.

Level 2 Award in CCTV Operations

SIA Approved Qualification - CCTV Operator

The role of a CCTV operator is mainly involved with monitoring and tracking the activities of suspicious looking individuals or situations in public places. However, unless you are working ‘in house’, you will need to be granted a CCTV SIA licence before you can apply for a job within the industry.

Before you can apply to the SIA for a CCTV licence you will need to obtain a licence-linked qualification called the Level 2 Award in CCTV Operations (Public Space Surveillance). This qualification is achieved by attending a four day course and passing two multiple choice exam together with a practical assessment
